I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading!
How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book!
When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.
Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice, 1811 English novelist (1775 - 1817)

Books!!

Anyone who knows me, knows about my love for books. In fact, love is too weak of a word... a fiery undying passion is more like it. When I was three years old my Gramma set me on her knee and proceeded to teach me the words in Goldilocks and the Three Bears. That was the spark that started the fiery passion. Trips to the thrift store or garage sales when I was a kid would always result in me begging for pocket change so I could buy a stack of books. To this day I will still stop by with my spare change to see what ink and binding treasure I can find.

As an adult I find all the time I can to read. Lately my most favorite reading time has been while waiting at the laundromat. It's at least 2 hours of uninterrupted (well except to change the clothes from the washer to the dryer) quiet time. I also read when I eat meals alone, in the loo (which drives my other half nuts), and sometimes I will just park in a quiet place, roll down my windows and just read.

What I choose to read and when all revolves around my mood. Sometimes I just can't get enough of the effortless escapism that comes with chick-lit. Other times I really want to immerse myself and learn something so I'll grab for that non-fiction item. On a day when it's raining, nothing satisfies me more than a good mystery. And I will at least attempt to read just about anything.

My tastes have changed since I was three, although I'm still a sucker for a good fairy tale. When you mention to people you like to read, the standard conversational questions are, "What do you like to read" and "Who're some of your favorite authors." I have answers for these questions, but you had better have a good solid hour to hear some of them.

Without books I would be lost. Mentally I would starve to death. It's the only thing in my life that remains constant. Through all the changes, upheavals, break-ups and new love, I have always had and will always have books.

PS - I've added my Shelfari at the bottom of my blog so you can see what I like to read. :)

YAY! Amy's got a blog!

It's spring fever.
That is what the name of it is.
And when you've got it, you want - oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!
